Congratulations to our parishioner, Paul, who has been nominated for the Banks Volunteer of the Year 2021 award for his selfless service to our parish over five decades.
Paul Moreton was one of the founding members of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Paul was very much involved with the youth of the parish including assisting with the youth group and being a very popular netball coach of OLF teams which continued over many years. Over the decades Paul has served on various committees including three terms on the Parish Leadership Team chairing it on each occasion. The building of the Parish Centre in 1988 with its various facilities was undertaken by a committee that was also chaired by Paul.
Much of Paul’s work in the parish has provided comfort and safety for all: the original carpeting of the church, the installation of ceiling fans, renovated internal lighting, the design of the car park with kerb and sealing, installation of boundary fencing, and more recently, floodlighting of the parish grounds have all been the product of his involvement.
Paul has been instrumental in both personally maintaining and modernising the parish house including renovating the kitchen area and undertaking extensions to the office area. In recent years he has overseen extensions to the area outside the church entrance to increase ease of access and to increase safety for parishioners.
Paul has also given generously of his time to assist with many outreach programs conducted by the parish ‘Lending a Hand’ program and has been involved with regular weekly rostered duties and numerous other parish programs.
Having recently celebrated his 80th birthday, Paul is now stepping back from his more active roles in the parish but his commitment to OLF is unwavering. His participation in the parish has been one of selfless concern and generously reaching out in service to all.
